Diabetes Walk Coming to a School Near You

Please make plans now to attend the 4th Annual American Diabetes Association School Walk and Blood Drive. It is a joint project between the Intermediate and Little Cypress Elementary. Last year was a tremendous success with over $11,000 being raised, 65 pints of blood donated, and 1,200 people walking in just 6.5 hours.

You are also invited to join us in walking on our new ½ mile Health Walk that was built by our maintenance department, thanks to the grant that we received from Lowe’s Toolbox Education Grant last year. Our goal this year is to raise $15,000, and have 80 pints of blood donated, with at least 1,500 people walking a minimum of 4,000 miles.

The students will be walking during their regularly scheduled PE classes plus an additional hour with their classroom teacher. Their guests generally come and walk with them during the PE time or around the time they sign up to donate for the blood drive. So this means that there are at least 50-100 people outside all the time. We also serve bottled water and fresh fruit all day long. I would like to invite you to set up a booth to either conduct activities or distribute literature that would support our goals of promoting health and safety. (We will start walking at 7:45 and finish at 2:00)

We are also looking for donations that can be used as prizes for the event or cover the cost of refreshments. We give prizes to the students who collect the most laps out of each class, who have the most guest participating (we have people who walk or donate in the name of the students who are sometimes left out) and who raise the most money. We would also like to give out some random prizes to our guests throughout the day.

We would like for you to be a part of this history making event. The Walk will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009, from 7:45 AM -2:00 PM at Little Cypress Intermediate.
